... to restore theology to the mainstream of science

P's thesis [on the history of urban waste management] and changing perceptions of risk (the downside of life, hell, cancer, accident, victim of crime etc). Let us use this approach to religion. Would you leave your hands in the hands of a celibate clergyperson who has no obvious outlet for sexual pressures, no obvious practical route to sexual maturity, no obvious institutional sanction against sexual crimes against children (because the church management regularly practice cover-ups etc). Is it why I entered the Order of Preachers, to counter the risk of hell? What is the risk (eg of religious war) associated with theology based on fairy tales?

H died, Wednesday night/Thursday morning. RIP an indirect victim of the Holocaust.

The world is riven with religious hatred.

Our universe, like God, is as big as can be imagined. To construct a mathematical picture of it, we begin with arithmetic, the mathematics of numbers. Arithmetic begins with the natural numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, ... All the natural numbers taken together form the set of

natural numbers N.

Divide the transfinite network into regions of convergent and divergent evolution : unifying and fragmenting - the fractal geometry of nature. Mandelbrot.

Things that feed and excrete. We live on the excreta of the sun - photons.

We can construct the static transfinite network, but why does it go? We describe the world's motion in terns of the transfinite network. Driven by the arrow of time to diversity.

DIVERSITY <=> THE SEARCH FOR CONSISTENCY

Quantum mechanics : the evolution of phi = exp(it), t = process. Ceaseless movement whose fixed points are the transfinite network. Between the fixed points lies the uncertainty of motion - which point will be energized ie realized - which points in the space of strings of words are realized as novels? Not very many. They are sparse, like the stars.

My life is a point in the space of human lives also realized but sparsely, all possible lives being a high transfinite number. Each generation of the transfinite network is a new moment in time. Why does it come? CONSISTENCY.

Religion has become a non-performing brand. It is time for a repositioning. We have to make religion credible again, which in the modern world means implementing strict quality control. The first step to quality control is to specify an ideal product and then produce it to acceptable tolerances.

All physical and social structure, insofar as it endures through time is by definition memory, insofar as it can be read and possibly written to [the past is read only!] JUSTICE - you can only write to me if I can write to you - equal power = peers.

Books

Mandelbrot, Benoit B , The Fractal Geometry of Nature, Freeman 1988 Jacket: 'A rarity: a picture book of sophisticated contemporary research ideas in mathematics. Here, it concerns recursively defined curves and shapes, whose dimensionality is not a whole number. Amazingly, Mandelbrot shows their relvance to practically every branch of science.' Douglas R.
