the two questions for epistemology are has the world got some sort of fixed nature; and can we know it? The answer to both must be yes, otherwise what would be the point of complex organisms like ourselves? If there is no fixity in events, organization has no point. The rise of science has given great credibility to the idea that the world has a fixed nature which we can know and use. This fact is also attested by the contrast between the way of life of a modern wealthy city dweller and a person still utilizing stone age technology to live in a stone age environment.
