EVENT: The unconditioned now happens now.

'The State is the great fictitious entity by which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else. [Economist 5/3/05 quotes by Athanassios Rizos originally from Frederic Bastiat letters page 16]

'Problems in metaphysics with many scales of complexity'

Evolution is made possible by abstraction [knowledge]

The genome is an abstract representation of an organism. The renormalization group process is an example of abstraction, simplifying a system while retain essential elements.

A hallmark of a religious group is care for each other, particularly the weak. On the other hand, members of one religion may persecute members of another.

My bonds seem to be breaking or loosening as I become more at home in the transfinite network. It is a mind expanding concept but it takes a while to sink in., or more correctly to fill out from an abstract idea top a concrete reality.

Let us assume, inspired by Lonergan, that things happen when they are unconditioned, ie all the conditions are fulfilled. If we get everything

[page 102]

right we can put a satellite in orbit or fall in love and ultimately reproduce.

I can listen to music and dance to it, but not make it. My life is taken up with more prosaic structures, Writing, nevertheless, seems a step away from building and a step closer to music.

Peter Fonda: 'I'm just ... getting my thing together [Easy Rider].

We lead the physical notion [of force] through the psychological notion of force (personality) to the formal notion. FORCE == COMMUNICATION == CORRELATION

Are we in love or just fucking for pure pleasure? The power of writing is not only that we can think and feel that question, but write it down. It has meaning because others have experiences that also fit these words, ie a symmetry.

Quantum mechanics teaches us how to move around in the transfinite network.

The foundation of dynamics was the discovery (invention) of writing. To capture moving reality in static text is the aim of the discipline.

The transfinite network is both multi scaled (and so a candidate for renormalization) and multidimensional (and so a candidate for rotation. Scholes and Biggs, N434:45. Scholes and Biggs

[page 103]

Scholes and Biggs page 45: 'The BII is an aggregate index, intended to provide an intuitive high level synthetic overview for the public and policy makers. It can be disaggregated in several ways ... . The BII has the same meaning at all spatial scales.

All levels of complexity in the transfinite network are normalized to 1, ie every event in any one of them is accompanied by an event in all the others (?).

Hofstadter: Self reference --> permutation. How many ways can I map myself onto myself. Hofstadter

The Power of Now: the tactics of the old religions all revolve around dumbing down the population, minimizing their motivation to ask questions by proposing omnibus solutions, like God takes care of everything. Tolle

Two oldest and related professions, soldiering and prostitution, both closely related to the commercialization of rape.

One changes by selection. Pushing an object sets up states in a manner that manifests as acceleration.

Tolle, Echhart, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment, New World Library 1999 Amazon product description: 'Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of today's most inspiring teachers. In The Power of Now, a #1 national bestseller, the author describes his transition from despair to self-realization soon after his 29th birthday. Tolle took another ten years to understand this transformation, during which time he evolved a philosophy that has parallels in Buddhism, relaxation techniques, and meditation theory but is also eminently practical. In The Power of Now he shows readers how to recognize themselves as the creators of their own pain, and how to have a pain-free existence by living fully in the present. Accessing the deepest self, the true self, can be learned, he says, by freeing ourselves from the conflicting, unreasonable demands of the mind and living "present, fully and intensely, in the Now."'

Papers

Scholes, R J and R Biggs, "A bioldiversity intactness index", Nature, 434, 7029, 3 March, page 45-49. 'The nations of the world have set themselves a target of reducing the rate of biodiversity loss by 2010. Here we propose a biodiversity intactness index (BII) for assessing progress toward this target that is simple and practical - but sensitive to important factors that influence biodiversity status - and which satisfies the criteria for policy relevance set by the Convention of Biological Diversity. ...
