Notes[Sunday 2 November 2008 - Saturday 8 November 2008] [Notebook: DB 64 Gravitation] Sunday 2 November 2008[page 147] Monday 3 November 2008[page 148] Rushdie page 97: ''A poet's work . . . to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape he world and stop it from going to sleep. And if rivers of blood flow from the cuts his verses inflict, then they will nourish him. He is the satirist, Baal. Rushdie The only authority comes from close attachment to reality, to God. A book is worthless insofar as it ignores real experience. Rushdie page 215: 'Gibreel understands that the Imam, fighting by proxy as usual, will sacrifice him as readily as he did the hill or corpses at the palace gate, that he is a suicide soldier at the service of the cleric's cause.' Heisenberg Physical Principles page 20: '[The uncertainty] principle states that every subsequent observation of the position will alter the momentum by n unknown and indeterminable amount such that after carrying out the experiment our knowledge of the electronic motion is restricted by the uncertainty relation. This may be expressed in concise and general terms by saying that every experiment destroys some of the knowledge of the system that was obtained by previous experiments . [Every observation rewrites memory] This formulation makes it clear that the uncertainty relation does not refer to the past; if the velocity of the electron is at first known and the position then exactly measured, the position for times previous to the measurement may be calculated. Then for these past times delta p , delta q is smaller than the usual limiting value, but this knowledge of the past if of a purely speculative character, since it can never (because of the unknown change of momentum caused by the position measurement) be used [page 149] as an initial condition in any calculation of the future progress of the electron and thus cannot be subjected to experimental verification. it is a matter of personal belief whether such a calculation concerning the past history of the electron can be ascribed any physical reality or not.' Heisenberg PRIVACY = UNKNOWABILITY From a computational point of view, we can trace a result back to its initial conditions (in the case of a plane crash, for instance), but we cannot (except in very limited cases) predict the future from present conditions. We can say that the past is determinate, the future indeterminate. The past . . . as we know it is equivalent to a halted (stationary, fixed) Turing machine, whereas events in the future depend on the halting of machines whose halting cannot be predicted. A computation is a periodic (wavelike) process. Its blue cutoff is the clock frequency and the red cutoff (if any) is the halting frequency of the total process. In between these frequencies are the (stationary) halting frequencies of sub-processes. In quantum mechanics we do not observe the actual frequencies of processes (except in the correspondence limit) b ut the frequency of transition between stationary processes which are accompanied by the emission or absorption of a particle. Tuesday 4 November 2008The 'matter of' spirit (alphabet, foundation) is information (and so entropy) and so the greener we become, the more information [page 150] we pack into matter. The upper limit is set by the uncertainty principle delta action . delta number [entropy] => h bar. Follow the money; follow the energy; follow the (rate of) action. Fixed point theorems bold as long as a set is mapped onto itself, but once it breaks its bounds my mapping outside itself, thus establishing a new larger set mapping onto itself, fixed points may move. Five . . . Casti Wednesday 5 November 2008Politics is within us as well as around us. We are a bundle of independent and sometimes conflicting desires which must be reconciled and harmonized to achieve fitting action, just like the wider society. An important feature of politics is metanoia, the ability to change our actions to suit the environment, to go, when it appears necessary and advantageous, with the flow. There is no need for mind control; only public behaviour (ie observable physical action) control: no rape, no violence, drive on the correct side of the road, stop at stop signs and so on, while thinking what you will. Commuting matrices have parallel eigenvalues, in other words the same alphabet, and so they are in some sense the same code, is energy code, position code, momentum code etc. [the lengths of the eigenvectors measure the frequencies of the corresponding 'letters'] Heisenberg page 56: 'The exact knowledge of the direction (except for a factor of absolute magnitude unity) in unitary space is the [page 151] maximum information regarding the dynamical variable which can be obtained.' ie we can know precisely which letter of the 'eigenalphabet' we are reading. Heisenberg page 57: '. . . the values of two dynamical quantities are causally related if and only if, the tensors corresponding to them have parallel principal axes.' Thursday 6 November 2008Rushdie page 35 'The Angel of Revelation' The Theology Company Presentation TRADE 1. Trade is the exchange of value; all communication is trade and involved the exchange of physically embodied information. 2. Trade is fair if both parties are wittingly satisfied with the deal; otherwise it is unfairness, 3. Unfairness arises from deception, power, theft, violence and similar violations of the peer relationship. 4. The ultimate purpose of physical theology is fair trade for all people, other species and the planet. The Theology Company product is donation ware. Mike Bombich People wishing assistance to apply our wares may negotiate suitable consultation fees. Rushdie page 335: 'Any new idea, Mahound, is asked two questions. The first is when it is weak: WHAT KIND OF IDEA ARE YOU? Are you the kind that compromises, does deals, [page 152] accommodates itself to society, aims to find a niche, to survive; or are you the cussed, bloody minded, ramrod backed kind of dumbfool notion which would rather break than sway with the breeze? - The kind that will, almost certainly, ninety nine times out of a hundred, be smashed to bits; but the hundredth time may change the world. Natural theology is both. It has an unassailable physical backbone that differentiates into a transfinity of detail that can accommodate every personality. The common law recognizes that corporate persons can be created by a group of natural persons. The network model of god takes this idea to the limit, envisaging layer after layer of more complex personalities whose interaction serves to create the next layer of personal complexity. PERSON == SOURCE Rushdie page 338: 'The I asked: does a firm persuasion that a thing is so make it so? He, ie Isaiah replied. All poets believe that it does, in ages of imagination this firm persuasion removed mountains; but many are not capable of a firm persuasion of any thing. Faith does not move mountains per se, but patiently assembles and uses the resources necessary to move the mountain by encouraging others to invest in the project, as they would in an oil company, because they hope to earn some profit. Each peer group has its own ways of measuring profit and loss of value. In any process inefficiency is lost value and new more efficient algorithms are the treasure. So this Presentation embodies the algorithm which The Theology Company is developing. [page 153] Friday 7 November 2008At the lowest formal layer there is no difference between formalism and total reality, because the world at this layer is not complex enough to sustain any distinction. At this layer, we may guess, quantum mechanics is everything. FINANCIAL CRISIS caused by breakdown of trust. Trust breaks down when there are too many errors in the system caused, for instance, by unreliable valuation of items of trade. It is up to the layer above to eliminate the errors (from its point of view) invariably generated in its physical layer. . . . The Theology Company's ambition is to become Australia's first publicly listed religion. Obviously this places certain constraints on the direction of the Company if it wants to attract investors. One cannot go public with a sectarian religion since this would be to exclude certain investors, contrary to the spirit of public shareholding. Second, one must have a market and some prospect of making a return to investors. It may be that religion accounts for 10% of the GNP. Clearly we have to research this, but there is no doubt that many religions are quite wealthy and some say the quickest way to make money is to open a Church, [page 154] Most of the wealth possessed by religions is hidden in private and yet religions are public institutions. The Theology Company is at present a private company and may only invite donations not investments, from people that would like to see the initiative prosper. At present it is no more than a one man band playing behind a corporate front, but the aim is to direct its operations in such a way that it can eventually become public so that its wealth will be there for all to so to be shared by anyone who wonts to join in. Religion is the technology of peace, the art of mediation. A mediator must establish the conditions for fair trade between the parties in dispute. Saturday 8 November 2008. . . Public vs private religion The Roman Catholic Church and Islam are private religion; you have to be a baptized or otherwise certified believer to belong. Public religion is open to everyone, including members of the private religions. Further readingBooks
