Next problem cc21_zero-energy. What is the theological and physical point of this page. It is a preliminary to cc22_gravitation. Does time have a direction in the primordial state? Can we write E = hf, −E = h −f? This is a bit like Feynman's view that antiparticles are where time runs backwards. Has something to do with the weak force breach of parity which [may] serve to eliminate the equivalence of matter and anti-matter. Also connected to magnetic monopole but we have to recognize that magnetism is a relativistic differentiation of electric force and so does not sppear until we hv Minkowski spacetime whose break of symmetry is a break in the direction of the direction of time which has no implicit direction in Hilbert space [where all unobserved process is unitary and reversible]. So perhaps we begin with evolutionary epistemology: belief in the face of death. The standard approach of any established belief system is to kill, ignore of disenfranchise unbelievers. This is the basic dialogue going on in the world now between absolutism and democracy.

This page [cc21] and gravitation (cc22) lead to cc23_quantum field theory which is basically an epistemological discussion leading to cc24_chromodynamics

and cc25_the relationship between mathematics and the motion of mathematicians qua mathematicians, which we take to be a model of the relationship between kinematics snd dynamics in the world.

Jammer: Berkeley, Hume and Mach tend to discount "force" as a fictitious concept perhaps derived from our feeling of stress we we exert a force like lifting a weight. This conclusion appears to be supported by the general theory of relativity which sees "force" as the geodesic deviation rising from the presence of energy [nevertheless when our inertial motion is interrupted by the presence of Earth, we certainly feel an actual force]. Berkeley Jammer page 204: ' "Force, gravitation and similar terms are convenient for purposes of reasoning and for computations of motion and moving bodies but not for the understanding of motion itself. . . . ".'

' "With respect to attraction it is clear that this was introduced by Newton as a true physical quality but only as a mathematical hypothesis".'

page 207: ' True causes in a strict sense are agents and all agents are, according to Berkeley, incorporeal. The real cause of motion, consequently, can only be spirit. In fact it is the supreme efficient and final cause, it is God.'

page 208: 'Berkeley's criticism of the concept of force may be expressed in terms of modern epistemology as follows: "force" is a construct of the conceptual scheme of physics and should not be confounded with metaphysical causality. Hume's generalization of the concept of causality is itself a straight forward continuation of Berkeley's inception.'

Empty mind. Very zen, but not much help. At least the market outlook is positive.

In the linear realm of Hilbert space the quantum harmonic oscillator has zero energy because the negative ("potential") state is equal and opposite to the positive ("kinetic") state, but when we move into the quadratic realm of Minkowski space the squared negatives become positive and so give us the Casimir effect and the Lamb shift (?). From numbers to vectors: from energy [particles] to entropy [count of particles]. Spacetime physics is about 4-vectors; biology is about giga-vectors; sex is about superposition at the giga scale, music about superposition in the space of human hearing. Theology is about the physical representation of information [the body of God]. Four-momentum - Wikipedia, Superposition principle - Wikipedia

The metaphysical heart of physics is the relationship btween kinetics and dynamics, both of which are rooted in 4-vectors, the inertial world of special relativity and Minkowski space, joined to the dynamic world of force and mass by the relationship E = hf [kinetic] = mc2 [dynamic].

Our human world is ruled by politics which revolves around the interface between dreams and reality. In theology we have dreams of heaven. For many heaven lies in the past, a time of a past paradise which was lost by sin to be recovered by an eschatological divine restoration of heaven, to be restored by an omnipotent and benevolent deity which must be placated by our adherence to rules of behaviour dictated by divinities whose earthly representatives have historically been represented by warlords in a position to control our behaviour by the sanction of death for those who disobey and wealth for the obedient. The development of nuclear weapons has made this dream a reality for those political powers who hold that it is a reasonable strategy to destroy the world to reinforce their dreams. The latest representation of this belief is the standoff between a nuclear armed Vladimir Putin, who, supported by his theological delusions is bent on annihilating Ukraine because he sees it as an obstacle to divine omnipotence. His position is echoed by other nuclear armed powers who do not care how many people and how much wealth they destroy to maintain hegemony. The empires of history have all achieved their brief moments in the Sun by mass murder and the annihilation of everybody who stands in their way.

Despite these destructive dreams, entropy in the form of democracy and cooperation has brought many of us to see paradise in the future snd given us a taste of it in a reality where education, health care and welfare have softened the struggle for life that has paradoxically governed the evolution of the universe from an initial cataclysmic explosion to its current enormous complexity and the oasis of peace which we enjoy. We can understand this evolution by a combination of physics and theology enlightened by cybernetics and our knowledge of

communication and control.

Perhaps the big deal is to model the universe on the proton. We have asymptotic freedom on the inside and cannot get out. Both these ideas to be expressed in logical terms. Superposition has no room for contradiction insofar as it followed the local rules of positive and negative integers as a ring and as the outcomes of superposition are measured in structures and probabilities. The structures come from the Fourier inversions of the 0 vectors in Hilbert pace, representing all the computable functions. These in turn represent all the possible stable structures in the universe, ie all those which do not contain contradictions, the seeds of their own destruction like the empires which rely on low entropy oligarchs to control high entropy populations. Once a significant number of the population, more than can be killed or imprisoned by the autocrat, turn against the autocrat, that autocrat is doomed.

As explained on page 12, the coupling between computation of quantum mechanics and the dynamics of spacetime is mediated by the speed of light and the Minkowski metric. It introduces causality in the form of force and momentum into the world, as explained by Newton. The velocity of light also introduces the relationship between the quantum mechanical definition of energy, E = h ∂ ψ / ∂ t and the causal relationship between energy, mass and momentum encapsulated in the equation E = mc2 snd the parallels between the formal relationship between the Lorentz transforms and the boundary between formalism and causality represented by the light cone, and explains the relationship between the four-vectors representing the relationship of distance to time and energy to momentum represented by the mathematical identities between the spacetime four-vectors and the energy momentum 4-vectors.

Given the 1, 1, 1, -1 metric we can say that zero distance corresponds to zero energy so that when we integrate over the whole universe we get a zero.

Energy is packed in particles [Planck, Einstein] as information is packed in packets [Shannon].

Darwin proposed a mechanism for the creation of life while knowing next to nothing, by modern standards, about the actual physiology of life but his hypothesis has been proven right, in every particular as more and more detail at every scale has come to light. Charles Darwin (1859): The Origin of Species: By Means of Natural Selection

In quantum mechanics we re somewhat inclined to map phase to time and energy but in fact it is a complex mathematical entity representative of the circle group of radius one snd it has a wide spectrum of interpretations.

Like fundaments particles, people are quite smooth and simple on the outside but enormously complex with an enormously wide bandwidth of parallel processing inside.

Does the inertia of s body depend upon its energy content? Energy and momentum are united in the photon. Albert Einstein (1905b): Does the inertia of a body depend upon its energy-content?

Darwin (1859), Charles, The Origin of Species: By Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life, Cambridge University Press 1859, 2009 ' It's hard to talk about The Origin of Species without making statements that seem overwrought and fulsome. But it's true: this is indeed one of the most important and influential books ever written, and it is one of the very few groundbreaking works of science that is truly readable. . . . Darwin's friend and "bulldog" T.H. Huxley said upon reading the Origin, "How extremely stupid of me not to have thought of that." Alfred Russel Wallace had thought of the same theory of evolution Darwin did, but it was Darwin who gathered the mass of supporting evidence—on domestic animals and plants, on variability, on sexual selection, on dispersal—that swept most scientists before it. It's hardly necessary to mention that the book is still controversial: Darwin's remark in his conclusion that "Light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history" is surely the pinnacle of British understatement. Albert Einstein (1905b), Does the inertia of a body depend upon its energy-content?, ' If a body gives off the energy L in the form of radiation, its mass diminishes by L/c2. The fact that the energy withdrawn from the body becomes energy of radiation evidently makes no difference, so that we are led to the more general conclusion that The mass of a body is a measure of its energy-content; if the energy changes by L, the mass changes in the same sense by L/9 × 10^20, the energy being measured in ergs, and the mass in grammes. It is not impossible that with bodies whose energy-content is variable to a high degree (e.g. with radium salts) the theory may be successfully put to the test. If the theory corresponds to the facts, radiation conveys inertia between the emitting and absorbing bodies. ' back

Bartosz Brzezinski, Global hunger figures rose to 828M in 2021, UN says , ' One in 10 people around the world faced hunger in 2021, according to a U.N. report released on Wednesday. The report, produced jointly by the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Programme, UNICEF, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Health Organization, found that between 702 million and 828 million people suffered from hunger last year. That's at least 50 million more than the year before it, indicating that efforts to eliminate hunger and malnutrition are sliding. The number of people who were food insecure, meaning they lacked regular access to nutritious food needed to live a healthy life, rose to around 2.3 billion in 2021 — 350 million more than before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.' back

Casimir effect - Wikipedia, Casimir effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 'In physics, the Casimir effect or Casimir-Polder force is a physical force arising from a quantized field. The typical example is of two uncharged metallic plates in a vacuum, placed a few micrometers apart, without any external electromagnetic field. In a classical description, the lack of an external field also means that there is no field between the plates, and no force would be measured between them. When this field is instead studied using quantum mechanics, it is seen that the plates do affect the virtual photons which constitute the field, and generate a net force—either an attraction or a repulsion depending on the specific arrangement of the two plates. This force has been measured, and is a striking example of an effect purely due to second quantization.' back

Christopher Pollard, Karl Marx: his philosophy explained, ' Marx’s concept of ideology introduced an innovative way to critique how dominant beliefs and practices – commonly taken to be for the good of all – actually reflect the interests and reinforce the power of the “ruling” class. For Marx, beliefs in philosophy, culture and economics often function to rationalise unfair advantages and privileges as “natural” when, in fact, the amount of change we see in history shows they are not. He was not saying this is a conspiracy of the ruling class, where those in the dominant class believe things simply because they reinforce the present power structure. Rather, it is because people are raised and learn how to think within a given social order. Through this, the views that seem eminently rational rather conveniently tend to uphold the distribution of power and wealth as they are.' back

Elodie Camprasse, Thousands of giant crabs amass off Australia’s coast. Scientists need your help to understand it, ' Every winter in shallow waters off Australia’s southern coast, armies of native spider crabs appear in their thousands. They form huge underwater piles, some as tall as a person. These fascinating crustaceans are on a risky mission – to get bigger. Crabs cannot simply grow like humans and other soft-bodied creatures. They must break free from their shells, expand their soft flesh and harden a new shell – all while dodging hungry predators on the hunt for a soft, easy meal. This moulting process leaves crabs clumsy and uncoordinated, making any escape tricky. That’s thought to be one reason they clump together in such big numbers – to keep each other safe.' back

Lamb shift - Wikipedia, Lamb shift - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 'In physics, the Lamb shift, named after Willis Lamb (1913–2008), is a difference in energy between two energy levels 2S½ and 2P½ (in term symbol notation) of the hydrogen atom which was not predicted by the Dirac equation, according to which these states should have the same energy. Interaction between vacuum energy fluctuations and the hydrogen electron in these different orbitals is the cause of the Lamb Shift, as was shown subsequent to its discovery.' back

Matthew Sussex, Russia’s Ukraine invasion is slowly approaching an inflection point. Is the West prepared to step up?, ' Thus far, NATO unity remains remarkable. Paul Rae, An ever innovative director, Peter Brook reminded us how high the stakes of theatre can be, ' Brook raised the bar on what audiences should expect of theatre, but also what creators could demand of their audiences. Robert Reich, The Crypto Crash: all Ponzi schemes topple eventually , ' Before the crypto crash, the value of cryptocurrencies had kept rising by attracting an ever-growing number of investors and some big Wall Street money, along with celebrity endorsements. But, again, all Ponzi schemes topple eventually. And it looks like crypto is now toppling. Why isn’t this market regulated? Mainly because of intensive lobbying by the crypto industry, whose kingpins want the Ponzi scheme to continue. . . . The industry is pouring huge money into political campaigns. And it has hired scores of former government officials and regulators to lobby on its behalf – including three former chairs of the Securities and Exchange Commission, three former chairs of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, three former US senators, one former White House chief of staff, and the former chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. . . . If we should have learned anything from the crashes of 1929 and 2008, it’s that regulation of financial markets is essential. Otherwise, they turn into Ponzi schemes that eventually leave small investors with nothing and destabilize the entire economy. This happened with Donald Trump’s presidency, as the “adults in the room” gradually headed for the exit, leaving no one but staffers defined by their personal allegiance to Trump.
