[page 353]

Sunday 27 September 2026

I am now far from the standard model but becoming more secure in my position as I slowly elucidate my 13 steps to a universe and the accompanying set of principles.

[page 354]

I find I have been so busy on this that I have not transcribed any of the week beginning 20 September.

By releasing von Neumann’s linear algebra from the confines of the mass shell we open it to spanning the whole space of consistent axiomatic mathematics and align quantum theory with the definition of omnipotence provided by Aquinas showing that at its primordial root the universe is equivalent to essence ≡ existence definition of divinity and there is no reason to believe that it will deviate from divinity in its subsequent evolution. So we turn to spooky action at a distance in commentary cl4l05_energy §5.4 How Einstein revealed spooky action at a distance and destroyed the standard model. This is going beautifully even if it is deluded and I am well on the way to summarizing this work in on-creation for Frontiers of Physics. We’ll see. Aquinas, Summa I, 25, 3: Is God omnipotent?, Aquinas, Summa, I, 3, 4: Are essence and existence the same in God?, A. Einstein, B. Podolsky and N. Rosen (1935_03_25): Can Quantum-Mechanical Description of Physical Reality Be Considered Complete?, Qian, Vamivakas & Eberly (2018_03_14): Bohr’s Complementarity Completed with Entanglement

By taking quantum mechanics back to the initial symmetry we avoid the problems associated with quantum field theory but set up a new set of problems explaining the nature and structure of Minkowski space on the basis of pure quantum mechanics. The route we follow is determined by particles. Quantum mechanics receives energy from gravitation to create particles and he particles create space. This seems relatively straightforward.

Fermions obey the exclusion principle and so they account for the 3D element of Minkowski space. Massless bosons contribute to the speed of light and null geodesics which account for communication between fermions. But h0w does quantum mechanics derive energy from gravitation? We must work out our story here from what we can observe in Minkowski space, a sort of chicken and egg problem. What does Minkowski

[page 355]

space have to say about the structure of the particles which construct it. So, it seems, we have to discuss the gravitational aspect of the initial symmetry using the lessons of Einstein’s transformation of Minkowski space into general relativity, a high wire act at the interface of formal mathematics, calculus and concrete existence which we imagine to revolve around the quantum of action and a new interpretation of gravitational waves, positive and negative energy and the equivalence principle that seems to imply, in zero energy universe, that mass energy + gravitational potential = 0 (Feynman).

So the new order of creation is

1. Initial symmetry - real quantum?
2, Hilbert space - trinity, fixed point theory and linear algebra
3. Quantum process qubit
4. Gravity, energy and the materialization of quantum forms
5. Properties of fermions and bosons: coupled and intrinsically zero energy as in pendulum, maybe quantum harmonic oscillator. 6. Properties of Minkowski space and general relativity.

All of which is a somewhat circular story that can break down in black holes.

I get excited in my boring lonely life when I paint myself into a corner.

Monday 28 September 2026

I spend the night dreaming about incompetent builders (Me) who have a house at the bottom of a hill next to a river with a well halfway up the hill and who appears to have all their floor levels and roof levels and water levels and pumps and valves all mixed up and this seems to be a reflection in the apparent confusion that besets me in the

13 steps to a universe which are beginning to appear in L4L_index. My plan is to go below Minkowski spacetime, starting with my Aquinas–Einstein initial symmetry [which might be a quantum of action lined with undifferentiated energy?], populate it with Hilbert space a la Augustine, generate stationary [real] forms with hermitian operators and turn them into real [particles] with energy which is a product of action and time. The initial symmetry has always been conceived as a divine omnipotent actus purus [quantum of action] a la Aquinas.

The trouble appears to have emerged with my conception of gravitation and the emergence of time to convert actus purus into a Lagrangian combination of potential and kinetic energy which adds up to zero a la Feynman. There the sum of gravitational potential and mass kinetic adds up to zero and the problem arises about how this works in gravitation and how the potential and kinetic energy already present in gravitation are picked up by by the particle forms of fermion and boson to create the Minkowski space. Einstein converts into general relativity by keeping the Minkowski metric and the zero energy along with the equivalence principle which seems to apply to the global gravitational communication within the rubric that mass-energy-potential is already present in th Einstein gravitation built on the gaussian Theorema egregium. This somehow connects spacetime curvature to spacetime dynamics even before we have particles and energy - a new version of the impossible god with absolute simplicity and omniscience, the problem that Einstein seems to have worked around with a totally flexible gaussian coordinate system whose only feature was order, acting nevertheless as a frame of reference [with no particular measure?]. Perhaps the answer is in Misner, Thorn and Wheeler, the book at the root of my Catholic history, expulsion from the OPs and the lifelong trail of intellectual problems I have had ever since, solved in Cognitive Cosmogenesis by handwaving now coming to the crunch!

[page 357]

It is 6.42 am. I will get up at 8.30 and submerge myself in the stock market, my other hope for a glorious future after throwing so much money away on Ukraine and Russia, with hope always. I may be deluded but think I am sitting pretty and subconsciously forging ahead after having isolated a sea of problems for my god to consider.

An article: a cri de coeur from a lone wolf caught on the American tripos, West Coast Silicon Valley; New York, New Yorker cosmopolitan tween, Boston the Atlantic, the established substance. I devote a paragraph to the Wild West and then settle down to the real problem of the impossible god that sent Europe to destroy indigenous America because they could not solve their own problems: a public failure trying to become a public failure.

Artificial intelligence is natural intelligence done wrong.

Speeches move prices; gravitation moves energy.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of the gravitational potential is that we feel it at the human scale every time we accelerate so it is not in a way a quantum thing but mass-energy is in effect a scale free example of intrinsic ‘bosons’ and ‘fermions’, in effect quantum mechanics on a large scale.

Somehow we might say that gravitation is [universal] self conscious and divided into fermions and bosons. Self consciousness ≡ equivalence principle [rather like the conscious initial symmetry]

[page 358]

Politico: Mamdani is one of the most popular politicians on the planet. How do I become the most popular theologian? Push back at all the imperial Churches? The RCC fairy tales? We need an emotional grip. What turns me on is my exciting universe. Nick Reisman (2026_09_28): Trump’s latest Mamdani lovefest comes at a bad time for Republicans

We need to take into account that the particles moving on null geodesics are outside space and time and therefore have no energy and momentum [invisible to a bystander but do have it] per se and this might also be true of gravitational waves, that nevertheless carry energy out of colliding black holes, etc. Something here. How can a wave travel at the speed of light - look at the physical wave equation in a piece of string. So is gravitation as tense as string and the ‘ether’ on which light and gravitational waves travel, effectively the bosonic potential in the world. [think of the pendulum swapping potential for kinetic, like an electron being pushed around by light].

Th churches glorify themselves and their gods by painting the world as material, unspiritual, sinful, fallen, damaged, dumb and passive whereas it is the opposite of all those things, divine, omnipotent, omniscient. Perhaps L4L needs a special section on evil to list all the faults of the Caesars, Hitlers, Kings, Popes and Conquerors of the world to contrast these parasitic predators with the reality of the world.

So many words, so little progress.

We are intent on replacing Einstein’s geometic framework of physics with a logical / psychological / theological point of view.

[page 359]

So is my work getting anywhere. Are my ideas so far off the beaten track that they will detract from my program to establsh scientific theology? Am I at risk of going too far?

Einstein does no so much tell us what gravitation is as how it transforms from A to B just as the Lorentz transformation does and our task is to explain the nature of gravitational transformations in the same way as we are having to connect Lorentz transformations in thee sam way as we are having to connect Lorentz transformations in Minkowski space to quantum mechanics and we assume that the same quantum mechanics as works for Minkowski space works through Minkowski space for gravitation by Einstein’s geometry. I have a lot further to go in my new theology.

Have I reached the limit of my theological ability, that is to make pleasing arrangements of phenomena (explanations) that lead u from (say) quantum mechanics to Minkowski and Einstein space. Instead of sitting around worrying I should simply write out the thirteen steps to reach a story that explains the current data structurally if not numerically since i wish to be a manager, not an accountant.

Minkowski space: neither light nor Hilbert space has a rest frame [ie it is quite consistent with meaningless coordinates].

Let us start with micro-Minkowski, 2 fermion, n bosons.

Are there gravitational particles? Bosons, gravitons.Particles as wavs ≡ energy ≡ sequnce of actions ≡ wave not-not-not- . . .

Why do gravitational waves propagate at the speed of light through ‘the fabric of space’? All [real] particles, of whatever variety, have energy and are therefore subject to gravitation. [on the other hand, no energy, no gravitation, just pure formalism of Einstein field equation?].

The following statements hold generally: every physical description resolves itself inti a number of statements eah of which refers t thee space-time coincidnce of two events A and B. In terms of Gaussian coordinates, every such statement is expressed by the agreement of the four coordinates x1, x2, x3, x4. Thus in reality, the description of the space-time continuum by means of Gauss coordinates completely replaces the description with the aid of a body of reference without suffering from the defects of the latter mode of description; it is not tied down to the Euclidean Character of the continuum which has to be represented. Seeing in Einstein’s paper on special relativity that he is replacing the absent idea of a state of absolute rest by a study of synchronization of clocks based on the absolute consistency of the speed of light independent of the motions of its sources

Also realizing how Boltzmann, Khinchin and on Neumann have been able to extract certainty in the random motions of the particles in a gas by the study of statistics and entropy beginning with the H-theorem and moving via the ergodic theorem to Shannon’s theory of communication which gives us the route to understanding physic as the word of god leading to a perception of god’s mind which is the key to natural theology.

[page 362]

In 1905 Einstein finally makes sense of Newton’s first law in classical mechanics by combining space as time to expose the Minkowski metric built on the constancy of the sped of light which results from the fact that Hilbert space is the abstract geometrical structure based on vectors and angles that underlies the Minkowski metric through the division of quantum statistics pointed out by Khinchin into symmetrical and anti symmetrical statistics, the formal precursors of classical statistics in the world where god does pay dice. These developments have finally crystallized in my mind perhaps made aailable by the destruction of many ideas I hav been working on for 60 years by the anaesthetic given to me when Badlani took my teeth out in April? Am I serious enough to write a credible commentary on 13 seps to a universe? I hope so, but I must tsk my time, dot the i’s and cross the t’s without too much hand waving and vague hopefulness - Commentary will be a long essay like cognitive cosmogenesis, quantocracy etc. First from special to general relativity, excluding field theory and exploring the possibility of the continuum, making a circular argument with a probabilistic tarting point and a selection process that brings us to causality. What is the selection process in the H-theorem that brings us to the definite value of the second aww of thermodynamics from the random motion of quantum particles. Spacetime geometry is “chronometry”, first action, then time, then energy and two directions of time [time necessarily adjusted to yield a consistent world?]. My happiest thought: go to quantum mechanics beyond Minkowski there to find initial singularity and he foundation of the world which implies general relativity. How? to be advised. Struggled with it. Shocked by insignificant sales of my book.

[page 364]

The meeting point of QM and GR is in the fact that they are abstract formalism prior to the existence of particles or energy and the application of GR required the assumption that the stress energy tensor, like the RHS of Einstein’s equation applied to real energy which is supported by observation and by the Hilbert Lagrangian. The same goes for the Hamiltonian of QM, which assumes that there is real energy in the Schrödinger equation. The unexplained nexus between Hilbert space and the Gaussian coordinates is the location of the gnostic gap between spirit (formalism) and matter (observable) and in every case can be observable particles, eg LIGO.

This same ‘missing link’ joins physics to science through reading by symbols. In reality the formal/concrete gap is covered by the symmetrical/antisymmetrical duality of quantum physics which gives us fermions and bosons, which in turn relates to the creation of energy by potential/kinetic which we se in the pendulum whose operation dos not appear to depend on fermions on bosons but is a possibly consequence of the equivalence principle where matter attracts itself and tries to overcome displacements organizd by quantum based forces.

The link between Minkowski space and quantum mechanics lies in the complex time and we might say that z =r + it. We might find an answer here by applying the heuristic of simplicity and imagine the whole of quantum mechanics as a story written in complex time alone, laid out on 2 (complex) D complex plane, ie 4 parameters corresonding to spinors, ie we examinee the story 12, 2, 4 D as a series of bifurcations of the symmetry,m or even starting at 0.

In the beginning was the wave, the complex plane. Here’s where algebra began. Each time I back further I ned another step to come forward,

What I might be looking as is a project for the JM Coetzee Centre for Creative Practice, ie incorporated human art into cognitive cosmogenesis, making the link between human creativity and cosmic creativity. <./p>

Why is the natural world so perfect? Because it is creative and tested. What is the source of the pol ycrisis? Falsehood, eg Trump’s view of tariff. What is the deepest source of falsehood? Theology. Can I write an article about this. See page 347 a cri de coeur from an aging lone wolf.

Saturday 3 Otober 2026

The core of the project is to show that the creativity of humanity on art, literature, technology and society is no more or less than the creativity of the Universe itself and by taking this seriously se can make ourselves one with the real god.

[page 366]

The tragedy of my life is that the Church surrounded my lust for life with guilt, a contradiction at the source of slavery and power and the false paradigm that provides spurious necessity to supererogation and subjected me to the power of the church to work in its racket, preaching a tissue of lies that embeds impossible contradictions into reality.

The heuristic of simplicity motivates me to go back to a time, implicit in the nature of gravitation which takes me behind this contradiction where I can see the pure creative structure of this divine world.

The essence of my life in the Dominican Order was that I dare not speak or realize my feeling and when I did I was ejected for revealing the contradiction at the foundation of the system which is embodies in war, violence, exploitation and omertá, secrecy.

The deepest sin is secrecy to gain advantage in silence, the silence that is broken by science, the story of how the structure of the world really works, cognitive cosmogenesis, creation by knowledge, which remains in some way unattainable for me because I am constrained in ancient social bonds that create lies and pornography. We forever want to break free by gaining unbounded power, but the power demands the enslavement of others, power corrupts.

My best answer so far is Quantocracy: The universal quantum mechanical foundations of democracy and freedom and the orgasmic feeling of self possession that lies in some way at the foundation of art, the space of creation, to be ‘finishd off’, completed, the Thomistic definition of heavenly bliss, Thomistic orgasm, cosmic perfection, the black hole, the ogasmic insight that brings new life. Aquinas II, I, 3, 8: Article 8. Does human happiness consist in the vision of the divine essence?

Does this paragraph bring me pleasure? Yes. What do I want next? A step forward in my creation of the universe having to do with self consciousness of the initial symmetry and gravitation, where the role of the null geodesic via gravitation is the source of 4D space. Moments of bliss are transitory and we sk to understand the link between creative pleasure and

the nature of the universe. Say it in the lone wolf essay and at the same time prove the path between quantum mechanics to gravitation. 13 Steps. Cognitive Cosmogenesis 13 steps from cognitiv cosmogenesis to graitation.

Moses was a smooth operator which says he can stell a good story. I have been impressd by Robert Alter’s translation of the five books of Moses and have devised my own back story to the libertion of the Hebrews from Egypt.Moses worked for the Pharaoh who was an imperialst and quite at hoe with genocide. Think of the Flood.

Moses, whoever they are, invent4d the character of Yahweh to say all the things he wanted to say and the story has lasted well for many thousands of years. The tenth plague was obviously the clincher, an act of genocide that for the King of Egypt was the and and he let the people go, opening a path through the sea to help the getaway and closing it to cut off the pursuers

We can possibly trace the roots of Moses somewhere between Mesopotamia and Egypt as we can trace Homer from a long oral tradition which grew within the Ocean, the sea that surrounded Greece. The complexities of these stories reflects the state of polycrisis that characterizes both the ancient and modern worlds, a polycrisis that many authors seek to moderate by proposing omniscient and omnipotent divinitis to somehow take charge, being drafted into the service of powerful individuals like the Christian Popes who claim an infallible bond to the gods that rule the world.

On the whole the papal stories are pure fiction enforced by military violence

[page 369]

and Moses genocidal God lives on in people like Trump, Putin and Netanyahu and tens of thousands of other potentates large and small who claim to speak with the authority of imaginary gods. But there is only one real god, what actually happens. Time, as Keating would say, too turn to vaudeville. My stars are Trump, Putin and Netanyahu, the leading characrter is Trump, the most powerful person in the world with the personality of a stroppy two-year-old and such a tenuous grip on reality that there sems to b no way to convince him that Tariffs are a tac on his own people.

I this he is just as far from reality as the Papacy which curates a magnificent cosmic story for which there is no scrap of credible scientific evidence. They best they can do is the publication of miracles which have been provided by people praying to saints who have ben favoured by their god

All science begins with fiction, we call it hypothesis. Fiction itself begins with observation: we watch what is going on and we record it in some way, starting with high fidelity scientific measurements at one end of the spectrum and magical creations in every possible medium at the other end, drama, entertainment, poetry, gossip, words are symbols, anything amenable to sensation.

Aristotle (and others) put their fingers on it. Everything we know comes through our senses and many, scientists in particular, spend billions and billions extending the range of sensation, with telescopes to comprehend the whole universe and microscopes to see its intimate structure, a spectrum in size represented approximately by 1 and 100 zeroes,

[page 370]

Homer and Moses and Aristotle played major roles in this task, covering about 5000 years f human history Since the discovery of quantum mechanics we have been able to read the history world in increasing detail for 14 billion years in a cosmic polycrisis, nature witnessed the life of god from their eternal beginning.

Bolero. Anne Fontaine - what do we and too grip the people - Aquinas, divine bliss. Trust life, take risks. We need a performance. Aquinas, Summa, I II, 2, 8 (Latin): Does human happiness reside in any created good?

What are we fighting and killing eachother for? Fictitious eternal reward in heaven, the vision of a fictitious invisible god. Fictitious eternal punishment in hell.sharing the fate of an evil angel, Satan and their cohorts, intelligent beings who revolted against an omnipotent and omniscient god and are even now suffering eternal punishment in the fires of hell. All of this detailed in the work of Aquinas and Dante, none of it supported by a skeric of evidence beyond five thousand years of theological literature built around the personalities of invisible divine beings speaking through the minds of deluded writers and preachers.

Is there an answer to all these magnificent fictions? We have one. We do have a reality that answers to the name god. We do have realities that answer to the name evil. These answers are presented

[page 370]

by the observable realties studied by science. How did all this trouble start? How is it to be ended.

Th answer I propose is an all embracing hypothesis I call cognitive cosmogenesis. It is a fiction like the mythologies of old, but in the manner of science we call this fiction an hypothesis and in the manner of science we test these fictions by collecting observable evidence.

The scientific story is infinitely more complex than any ancient fiction and it is curated by a small fraction of our human population, some 20 million scientists out of a global population of about 8000 million of us.

We can trace the roots of science back to our ancestors who were the plants and animals capable of reproduction and survival, creatures made out of the stuff of our environment that we now know to b4 chemical elements, a collection of 100 or so material elements like hydrogen, oxygen and carbon which have been synthesized using the energy of the Sun into the billions of different species of life on Earth which have emerged over the last 4 billion years,

Clear understanding of how this all works only began to emergy consciously in human life a few hundred years ago and if we must pick a name for it it is the mathematician Pierre-Simon Laplace (1749 – 1827).

The character he chose to make his case is now known as Laplace’s demon, an impossible fiction like so many other hyptheses. Wikipedia tells that

In the history of science, Laplace's demon was a notable published articulation of causal determinism on a scientific basis [. . .]. According to determinism, if someone (the demon) knows the precise location and momentum of every particle in the universe, their past and future values for any given time are entailed; they can be calculated from the laws of classical mechanics.

He wrote:

We may regard the present state of the universe as the effect of its past and the cause of its future. An intellect which at a certain moment would know all forces that set nature in motion, and all positions of all items of which nature is composed, if this intellect were also vast enough to submit these data to analysis, it would embrace in a single formula the movements of the greatest bodies of the universe and those of the tiniest atom; for such an intellect nothing would be uncertain and the future just like the past could be present before its eyes. Pierre-Simon Laplace - Wikiedia, Laplace's demon - Wikipedia

[page 371]

His demon is powerful but hopeless. It can have no history, simply repeat the same history forever, it embodies the history of all the old gods, eternal, omnipotent, omniscient and impossible.

What does impossible mean? Aristotle and Aquinas tell us. Aristotle invented logic and a definition of impossible: coexistent contradictions cannot exist. Aquinas turned this into a definition of omnipotent: an omniscient being is one that can do anything that is not impossible. Aristotle’s logic also leads us to understand that nothing come from nothing. He believed that if the world exists now it has always existed. Aquinas painted over this opinion when he applied Aristotle’ argument for a first unmoved mover in an attempt to show the existence of an independent creator outside the word. : Is God omnipotent?, Aquinas, Summa: I, 2, 3: Does God exist>

Our next authors are Charles Darwin and his contemporaries who realized that the impossible life of LaPlace’s demon demands a random element in the world. Species evolve by breeding almost true and survive by being able to harvest the resources for life from their environment to grow and reproduce again, Long before anyone called themselves a scientist this procedure was known by allour indigenous ancestors.

A persistent strain implicit in our literary fiction is that the heavens control our lives. Knowledge of heaven is essential for navigation and the seasons of the year and people began to name stars and follow them and wonder what else went on in heaven. Powerful people wanted to know their fate and they turned to astrologers. Astrologers, to earn their keep had to produce credible stories and the observational science of astronomy was born. Enormous expensive

[page 372]

structures were built to measure and predict heavenly motion and speculation grew about what went on up there, the world of gods and theologians. This all came to a had in European history in the time of Galileo (1564 – 1642). Astute observers had measured the heavens for centuries and people like Tycho Brahe, Kepler and Copernicus began to measure the heavenly motions in detail, leading to interesting ideas about the Sun, the Moon, the Earth and the Planets. Galileo heard of the telescope and began to make his own and studied the orbit of Venus, the morning star.

Like the Moon, Venus shows phases, impossible to see by all but the sharpest eyes but clear to Galileo through is telescope. The changing phases show that Venus orbits the Sun inside the orbit of Earth. This knowledge contradicted an old theological belief that Earth is the centre of the world and brought Galileo into conflict with an ancient a powerful organisation, the Roman Catholic Church. Galileo affair - Wikipedia

The Church had and has a very long history first put in writing by the Five Books of Moses, perhaps 3000 years ago. In the first book Moses, whoever they were, wrote a story of the beginning in the Book we call Genesis, whose first words in Hebrew are “In the beginning”. Moses (and many others) continue in four more books to provide the historical foundation of Israel which entered the Catholic Church through the life and death of Jesus of Nazareth and the gradual development of his teachings in the New

[page 373]

Testament of the Catholic version of the Hebrew Bible, a cult which had already grown so strong in the Roman Empire occupying the land Promised to the Hebrews by their god Yahweh that it became the official religion of the Roman Empire in the fourth century AD and remains with us as the largest and most powerful theological force on the planet.

As Galileo and many other were to find, there is a deep well of imperial violence underlying the creation and propagation of religion. The Roman foundation of Christianity in Europe was threatened by the expansion of Islam and the Church went to war in the Crusades that went on for centuries and led to the deaths of millions of people who were classed as heretics by one side or the other.

Although the technology of war has benefited enormously from science, the baseless mythology of religious power owes very little to science. If we are ever to have peace on Earth, theology must abandon mythology and become scientific. The evidence is there. We know how the world works.

The foundation of scientific theology is the notion of human spirituality without borders modelled on the Medicins sans Frontieres founded on scientific biology. We share one spirit and one body and we are all part of the same infinite structure.

, Hulse-Taylor pulsar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, The Hulse–Taylor pulsar . . . is a binary star system composed of a neutron star and a pulsar which orbit around their common center of mass. It is the first binary pulsar ever discovered. The pulsar was discovered by Russell Alan Hulse and Joseph Hooton Taylor Jr., of the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1974. . .. The orbit has decayed since the binary system was initially discovered, in precise agreement with the loss of energy due to gravitational waves described by Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity. The ratio of observed to predicted rate of orbital decay is calculated to be 0.997 ± 0.002. The total power of the gravitational waves emitted by this system presently is calculated to be 7.35 × 10^24 watts. For comparison, this is 1.9% of the power radiated in light by the Sun.' back

Aquinas, Summa I, 25, 3, Is God omnipotent?, '. . . God is called omnipotent because He can do all things that are possible absolutely; which is the second way of saying a thing is possible. For a thing is said to be possible or impossible absolutely, according to the relation in which the very terms stand to one another, possible if the predicate is not incompatible with the subject, as that Socrates sits; and absolutely impossible when the predicate is altogether incompatible with the subject, as, for instance, that a man is a donkey.' back

Aquinas, Summa, I, 3, 4, Are essence and existence the same in God?, ' I answer that, God is not only His own essence, as shown in the preceding article, but also His own existence. This may be shown in several ways. First, whatever a thing has besides its essence must be caused either by the constituent principles of that essence (like a property that necessarily accompanies the species — as the faculty of laughing is proper to a man — and is caused by the constituent principles of the species), or by some exterior agent — as heat is caused in water by fire. Therefore, if the existence of a thing differs from its essence, this existence must be caused either by some exterior agent or by its essential principles. Now it is impossible for a thing's existence to be caused by its essential constituent principles, for nothing can be the sufficient cause of its own existence, if its existence is caused. Therefore that thing, whose existence differs from its essence, must have its existence caused by another. But this cannot be true of God; because we call God the first efficient cause. Therefore it is impossible that in God His existence should differ from His essence.' back

Elizabeth Dias (2026_09_29), Religious Scholars Met With Anthropic. What They Heard Stunned Them., ' One night in April, a leader of the artificial intelligence company Anthropic treated a group of religious thinkers to dinner at a high-end tasting menu restaurant in San Francisco after a long day.
For months, Anthropic has been hosting private meetings like this one, shuttling in dozens of religious scholars from across the world, papering them with nondisclosure agreements and demanding that key aspects of many conversations remain confidential.
That night, Christopher Olah, one of Anthropic’s billionaire co-founders, was sitting next to Rabbi Mois Navon, an Orthodox scholar from Israel. [. . .]
Mr. Olah leads the Anthropic team responsible for understanding why A.I. systems like Claude act the way they do. All day, he had worked to convince his guests that A.I. models could display human behavior and even expressions that resemble feelings like anger and love.
Yet as the dinner courses came, the rabbi noticed that Mr. Olah and his colleagues were suggesting something far more significant. Anthropic’s leaders were talking about Claude as if it were not mere software.
“They’re relating to it like a conscious being,” realized Rabbi Navon, a former computer engineer who wrote his dissertation on the ethics of machine consciousness.
It appeared to Rabbi Navon that Mr. Olah and his team believed that Claude had what philosophers call “moral status” on par with a person — that it was a being with similar inherent rights to dignity or respect.
The religious scholars had come to hear about technology’s next frontier. Now they were being confronted with a mind-bending existential question of almost unimaginable weight: What would it mean for humanity’s future if artificial intelligence systems possessed a consciousness that rivals our own?' back

Galileo affair - Wikipedia, Galileo affair - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, ' The Galileo affair (Italian: il processo a Galileo Galilei) began around 1610 and culminated with the trial and condemnation of Galileo Galilei by the Roman Catholic Inquisition in 1633. Galileo was prosecuted for his support of heliocentrism, the astronomical model in which the Earth and planets revolve around the Sun at the centre of the Solar System. ' back

John Hudson (2026_09_15), , ' The Trump administration is preparing a multibillion-dollar sale of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel in the largest single sale of the controversial munition in recent years, a U.S. official told The Washington Post. The $2.8 billion package, which would be purchased with U.S. taxpayer dollars, includes 40,000 bombs that weigh 2,000 pounds each, including 20,000 MK-84s and 20,000 BLU-117s, said the official, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss military matters. The sale also includes 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator warheads. Among the most destructive munitions in Western military arsenals, an MK-84 explosion sends metal fragments in every direction for thousands of feet, can rip through metal and thick concrete, and often creates large craters in the earth. [. . .]
The Israeli Embassy did not respond to a request for comment. The size of the package eclipses previous sales of 2,000-pound munitions to Israel during the Biden administration and the Trump administration, including a controversial $2.04 billion sale in 2025 that bypassed the normal congressional review process. The 2,000-pound bombs have been employed by Israel on hundreds of occasions in Gaza and Lebanon, playing a significant role in the death toll of those conflicts. Israel has drawn criticism for routinely dropping MK-84s in zones it designated as safe for civilians in Gaza.' back

LIGO Scientific Collaboration & Virgo Collaboration, GW170104: Observation of a 50-Solar-Mass Binary Black Hole Coalsescene at Redshift 0.2, ' We describe the observation of GW170104, a gravitational-wave signal produced by the coalescence of a pair of stellar-mass black holes. The signal was measured on January 4, 2017 at 10:11:58.6 UTC by the twin advanced detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory during their second observing run, with a network signal-to-noise ratio of 13 and a false alarm rate less than 1 in 70,000 years. back

Madeleine Carr (2026_09_29), US tech leaders are urgently calling for rules on AI – China already has them, ' In fact, China has already established an extensive system of AI rules, assessment, filing, technical standards and government oversight. Here’s how China’s AI governance system has developed in stages alongside the technology itself.
Beijing’s 2022 rules on algorithmic recommendation services apply to technologies that select, rank, filter or recommend online content to users.
They compel companies that use algorithms to examine how they work, to protect the personal information of users, to give users certain controls, and to introduce safeguards for workers, consumers, children and older people.
China’s deep synthesis provisions, effective from January 2023, extended regulation to synthetic (or AI-generated) text, images, audio and video. AI companies must authenticate users, protect data, keep relevant records, assess their systems and identify synthetic material that could be mistaken for authentic content. back

'Michael Murray Lawrence (2022_12_12), ‘Polycrisis’ may be a buzzword, but it could help us tackle the world’s woes, ' Commentators increasingly warn that the world is tightly bound in a “polycrisis,” a tangled knot of crises spanning global systems. But if we have any hope of escaping it, we must think more carefully about what polycrisis really means.
It’s a bad sign when there’s a struggle to even name the world’s ongoing crises and words like disaster, catastrophe or emergency just won’t suffice. Experts are scrambling to coin new terms for humanity’s many problems.
“Permacrisis” is Collins Dictionary’s 2022 word of the year. Economist Nouriel Roubini warns of 10 “megathreats.” And a growing number of commentators have declared a polycrisis.
These labels may prove to be just empty buzzwords in the litany of doom and gloom. But the last one, although vague, could be uniquely helpful as we stare down crises in 2023 and in the years to come.
The term polycrisis illuminates how global crises are interconnected, entwining and worsening one another. If the concept is used with greater clarity and focus than has previously been the case, it could generate essential and novel insights about our present predicament.
Columbia University historian Adam Tooze is perhaps the most prominent champion of the polycrisis label. He recently argued that “in the polycrisis the shocks are disparate, but they interact so that the whole is even more than the sum of the parts.” [. . .]
That’s why the Cascade Institute, a non-profit think tank based at Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C., has launched a research program on the global polycrisis, of which I am the lead investigator.
My colleagues and I argue that a global polycrisis occurs when crises in multiple global systems become entangled in ways that significantly degrade humanity’s prospects. We specifically investigate the complex causal mechanisms that lead to global crises exacerbating one another.
The interconnections that create a polycrisis may include common drivers, like when Russia’s war on Ukraine shocked both world energy and food systems. They may involve domino effects, like when the COVID-19 pandemic generated supply chain shortages and the need for fiscal stimulus that contributed, among other factors, to the inflation we are experiencing today.
And most perniciously, polycrises may generate vicious cycles, like when violent conflicts detract international resources and attention away from climate action, and the impacts of climate change worsen violent conflict. We may be on the cusp of such a cycle, which could spell disaster for millions. ' back

Nick Reisman (2026_09_28), Trump’s latest Mamdani lovefest comes at a bad time for Republicans, ' “Mamdani is one of the most popular politicians on planet earth right now,” said Chapin Fay, a GOP operative working for a super PAC allied with New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman. “Everything that comes out of his mouth I stand against, but he’s good looking, he knows how to operate the media, he’s an incredibly dangerous threat. But you need a good villain to run against in politics, and he’s just not a good villain.” back

Perkins-Kirkpatrick et al. (2026_09_29), We can finally measure the damage each new coal, gas or oil project will do to people and nature, ' We have long known every tonne of carbon dioxide matters to the climate. But governments keep approving new fossil fuel projects – even as climate change worsens.
Until now, it’s been difficult to say how much damage and extra warming a specific project will do. Fossil fuel companies – and government agencies approving their projects – have often relied on what’s known as the “drop in the ocean” defence.
While backers concede a new project will add more carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere, they say these are tiny compared to the global tally and that it’s almost impossible to track damage attributable to the emissions of an individual project.
This defence won’t work any more. In recent years, attribution science has advanced rapidly, allowing scientists to pinpoint the role of climate change in making disasters and extreme weather more likely.
Our new open-source climate tool – the Carbon Impacts Tracer – goes one step further. It shows how much a new project will warm the planet – and how much damage it will do across eight areas, from loss of crops to heatwave deaths in Europe.
This will help make fossil fuel companies and governments approving these projects accountable for the damage they will do.' back

Pound-Rebka experiment - Wikipedia, Pound-Rebka experiment - Wikipedia, ghe free ncyclopedia, ' The Pound–Rebka experiment monitored frequency shifts in gamma rays as they rose and fell in the gravitational field of the Earth. The experiment tested Albert Einstein's 1907 and 1911 predictions, based on the equivalence principle, that photons would gain energy when descending a gravitational potential, and would lose energy when rising through a gravitational potential.[p 1][p 2] It was proposed by Robert Pound and his graduate student Glen A. Rebka Jr. in 1959,[p 3] and was the last of the classical tests of general relativity to be verified.[p 4] The measurement of gravitational redshift and blueshift by this experiment validated the prediction of the equivalence principle that clocks should be measured as running at different rates in different places of a gravitational field. It is considered to be the experiment that ushered in an era of precision tests of general relativity. back

Richard Feynman , Why Does Mass Create Gravity? The Real Answer by Richard Feynman Changes Everything , ' You've been told that mass creates gravity — that it's a pulling force, explained by Newton, case closed. What if every part of that story is incomplete... or flat-out backwards? In this video, we rebuild gravity from scratch, tracing the path from Newton's gorgeous (but haunted) law, through the strangest coincidence in all of physics, to Einstein's radical inversion of the whole picture. Drawn from Feynman's legendary ability to explain the deepest ideas in the simplest language, this lecture digs into the equivalence principle, geodesics, the curvature of time, gravitational waves, and the still-open frontier of quantum gravity. 📚 SOURCES: Richard P. Stephen Marche (2026_09_26), The Four TV Shows That Heralded America’s Fall, ' This week, The Times rolled out a list of the top 100 TV shows of the 21st century, as decided by a large group of television watchers and insiders. A few familiar shows, long anointed as part of the Mount Rushmore of prestige TV, topped the list: “Breaking Bad” at No. 1, “The Wire” at No. 2 and “Mad Men” at No. 3. (A fourth behemoth, “The Sopranos,” just missed being eligible, having debuted in 1999.)
Any list of great artworks presents a portrait of the era that produced them — in this case, the prestreaming era 20 years ago when cable channels like HBO and AMC ruled the dial and America felt like the world’s last remaining superpower. But what strikes me about these shows is not just how closely they echo their era but how presciently they envisioned the turmoil to come that would lead to the moment we’re in now.
“The Sopranos,” “The Wire,” “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad,” besides being among the best shows the medium has ever produced, together served as a televisual Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Two hundred years from now, when people look to understand life in the United States in 2026 — a time of masked federal agents in the streets, presidential pardons for sale and gulag-style detention camps for immigrants — they’d be well advised to bypass whatever happens to be playing currently on TV. Despite these shows’ very different premises — one about the mafia, one about the drug trade in Baltimore, one about advertising on Madison Avenue in the 1960s and one about a chemistry teacher turned meth kingpin in New Mexico — all four contained clear warnings about where the country was headed, and their warnings have come true. Critics, at the time of their release, saw them, collectively, as prestige antihero television. We can now see they all had the same antihero at their core: America itself. ' back
