s Trying to make a dream come true, perhaps by ignoring reality, but that is not possible, the world is quite predictable and we can predict the consequences of our actions as history shows, sometimes heading for success, other times heading for disaster.
LADW page 99: difference equation: xn+1 = Axn, A linear operator, V → V (Hilbert space in quantum mechanics, complex). Sergei Treil (2026_01_21): Linear Algebra Done Wrong: LADW
LADW eigenvalues, eigenvectors, spectrum. a Av = λv, v is eigenvector of A corresponding to eigenvalue λ, ie (A - λI)x = 0. Eigenspace is the set of eigenvectors and 0. &lambda Is an eigenvector iff (A - λi)x = 0 has a non trivial solution.
Matrix A is square iff determinant = 0, ie det(A - λI) = 0, ie determinant is a polynomial of degree n of λ, the characteristic polynomial.page 101: Impossible to solve polynomials of degree > 4 in radicals. So: take an arbitrary basis and compute eigenvalues of the matrix of the operator on this basis.
Square matrices A and B are similar if there is an invertible matrix S such that A = SBS-1 and characteristic polynomials of similar matrices coincide ie the matrices of linear transformations in different bases are similar.
[page 309]
Therefore we can define the characteristic polynomial of an operator as the characteristic polynomial of its basis in some basis.
The choice does not depend on the choice of basis. So the characteristic polynomial of an operator is well defined.
LADW page 102: Fundamental theorem of algebra says any polynomial of (degree at last 1) has a complex root, so operator on finite dimensional space has at least one eigenvalue so spectrum is not empty.
Complex Cn is natural setting for n × n matrices.
Any polynomial p(z) = Σn ak zk has n complex roots, counting multiplicity.

I.4: Aims of the Research
2.2.1: ‘The overarching thesis question that drove the design of the empirical work is whether the victims of Catholic clergy sexual abuse in Australia are finding justice.’
Monday 31 August 2026
2.2.1: What processes are victims using to seek justice? Are they working? Are they just?
Audience? Scholarly? Gaining an understanding of the law and the legal barriers to victims obtaining compensation. Secondary victims need to be compensated.
2.3: Empirical Resarch
2.4.1: 70 primary sources interviewd, 1 defaulted, 23 primary, 18 secondary, 5 non-legal, 12 legal + 1 victim/non-legal/advocate.
2.4.2: Semi structurd and unstructured; advance notice; at home.
2.4.3: Security of audio files. Coding of transcriptions.
Ethical approval from Monash U Human Research C’tee.
2.5.1: Recruitment
[page 312]
Victims recruited through advocacy group, given explanatory statement. articles in newspapers / legal professionals and advocates /prosecutors and judges.
2.5.2: Addressing risks for victims; and the researcher themself may need therapeutic support. Hubbard: Emotions have epistemological significance.
Data analysis: ‘grounded theory’ seeking explanatory models.
2.6.2: NVivo coding system
2.7: Doctrinal research method developed with common law.sourcing and examining cases.
2.8: Limitations of research: discovering what victims require for justice and the personal goal of bringing about legal reform, and find out what is needed.
Selection bias in victim choice: the goal was to give voice to victims: ‘standpoint theoretical perspective’. 12 legal advocates interviewed have represented 2000 victims and firmly supported the view that their actual suffering was minimized by Catholic institutional protocols.
Chapter 3 page 55: How Did the Victims Conceptualize Justice?
[Aside] Insofar as my view of divinity was rejected by the church and I was expelled my position was completely ignored and I was treated as a heretic with no voice.
Melbourne Response and Toward Healing did not mention “justice”. In my life since then my search for scientific theology has generally been treated as quixotic foolishness.
Criteria for justice: what do the victims think would be just? 1. Truth; 2. Accountability; 3. Money; 4. The offender; 5. Apology; 6. Counselling; 7. Prevention. Criteria extracted from 56 inteviewees.
Cohn: Ten methods of acknowledgement for truth commissions.
Note: Judy’s book provides a paradigm for correcting the much deeper problem of the Church lying about everything, not just sexual violence.
[page 313]
3.3.1: Victim’s truth and Church’s truth. Church is radically wrong.
page 58: Victim impact statement only mentiond by legal professionals.
2.3.2: Acknowledgement by Church and Hierarchy because the majority of victims would never have had their day in court.
The [one] priest involved was pessimistic – after 30 years still hard to get someone to listen.
3.3.3: County Court Judges thought guilty plea was more powerful than conviction. No victims sought acknowledgment by the offender.
3.4: Accountability by Church hierarchy. 1. Prosecution for concealing sex crimes; 2. Mandatory reporting; 3. Making the church a prosecutable legal entity; 4. Transparent and fair process; power has to be taken away from the church [particularly the power to infallibly enforce lies].
Monetary compensation made difficult by the legal defences used by the Church discussed in chapter 4.
Loss and damage in terms of human potential. I could have had a real science degree in the time I was in the order being taught crap; a joke. Paying compensation should hurt the Church as much as the Church hurt its victims.
3.5.4: No amount of compensation would heal the pain.
3.5.1: Successful criminal prosecutions necessary
Laicization.
Apology: 12 ingredients align with Canadian Commission: 1. unreserved and genuine; 2. face to face; 3. complete regret; 4. senior representation; 5. by representative if offender refuses; 6. personal; 7. comprehensive of victim’s needs; 8. reparation; 9.pastoral; 10. in writing; 11. acknowledgment of harm; 12.apologizer take rsponibiliy. Not evryone felt an apology would help them. Some wanted no further contact.
[page 314]
Only three victims wanted apology from the offender. Why? The concealment of the crime by the clergy intensified the impact of the crime (indicating that the church condoned it); loss of faith, beyond abuse from a non religious perpetrator. Mental /credal assault on the mind. This feeling very significant in my case.
3.8: Counselling (14 intviewees), mostly legal and non-legal advocates). One stop shop paid for by the Church, eg Vietnam vet TPI card. Only two primary victims proposed counselling. Me?
3.9: Prevention of further crimes - a duty and a responsibility of the Church. Suffering less painful if used to help future generations.
3.10: Secondary victims.
3.11: Seven criteria for justice to be used in Chapter 7.
Chapter 4: Looking for justice: I

4.2: Australian law
Conflict about vicarious and non-delegatable duty in QLD and NSW intermediate courts required resolution in the High Court.
4.2.2: Non-delegatable duties: duty of principal cannot be delegated to contractor - it is a ‘personal duty’ to ensure that reasonable care is taken by others. Complex discussion pp 87-89. N-D duty in Oz ‘on the wane’.
4.2.3: Vicarious liability: 2 factors: 1: Employment relationship; 2: Tort associatd with employment. Church claims it does not employ its staff.
Canadian case: Bazeley vs Curry found school authority vicariously liable for sexual assaults by an employee. Decided on “enterprise risk”: if there is a risk in the employment, it is for the employer to bear the risk.

page 97: ‘The relationship between the Catholic Church and its individual office holders is too remote to attract vicarious liability.’ Ellis’ counsel whose appeal to the High Court said: ‘we say that such an immunity would be an outrage to any reasonable sense of justice and we say it is wrong in law.’

Claims brought by 170 men against the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the Institute) argued against vicarious liability for the Brothers but Lord Phillips “with whom all four other lord justices agreed”, allowed the appeal and found that this was not a borderline case. On the contrary it was based on the satisfaction of the relevant criteria, one that was fair, just and reasonable for the Institute to share vicarious liability with the managers.”

Judy Courtin saga: (doctorate and legal practice) provides me with a pardigm for my interface with the RCC. Now I have Cognitive Cosmogenesis (my thesis) in print I need to make a business out of it, but how? Discovery; second book; ‘learned’ articles. Now complete notes on her thesis and decide what to buy next - SBM? Courtin’s task made easier because the RCC was committing real [and very generally recognized] crimes. My problem is that it is promoting false doctrines which have nevertheless a long and glorious historical pedigree and I have to document the damage which I see, as in my letter to Courtin, as closely related to imperialism, genocide and war, ie [arbitrary and unfounded] beliefs that cause military conflict.
Letter to Judy Courtin [29 August 2026]
Dear Dr Judy,Today I found your article in the May/June issue of Precedent: A reply to the dark side. My first response was to fill out the form to join the Australian Lawyer's Alliance and email the membership person that I would forward the fee soon.
The second was your conclusion, in the light of the bolted legal horse, that For the Catholic Church to be held vicariously liable, we should not have to meddle with the principles of vicarious liability. The Church simply needs to re-define its arcane canonical relationship with its clergy to one of employment. Now I have started reading your thesis and I can see that in its day it was a one woman equivalent of the Julia Gillard royal commission, deeply motivated by the tragedy in your own family. Although it is directed to the “scholarly” milieu, it must have carried enormous weight in the subsequent grilling of the Church through your historical perspective that identifies the Church as a repeat offender.
I have little doubt that its record goes back more than a thousand years and that clerical abuse of children has been among us at least since the Pharaohs adopted the role of papacy and used military power to gift themselves the ownership of all humanity.
My brilliant daughter, who I introduced to you in a previous letter, is married to an Israeli. They are fortunately resident in Australia. My “working” history of theology is that when edged weapons, horses and wheels made it possible for imperial forces to destroy vast swathes of indigenous culture the literate theological classes joined in to handle the administration.
Christianity suffered this fate when the Roman bishops sold out to Constantine. His imperial ancestors had no doubt taught him that propaganda is a far cheaper way to control populations so that they can be used rather than slaughtered. In the Old Days gods preferred genocide. The tenth plague on Egypt, slaughter of every newborn creature fits this. The books of Moses might suggest that Moses himself organized this revolution in the name of his imaginary god Yahweh. Yahweh became a global reality in the infallible Catholic Church, written into law. In the immortal words of Monty Python “its written, that’s why”. Hammurabi had long since carved the law in stone and Mr Trump is now reshaping reality with “Executive Orders”.
My next thought was to see, in the light of your argument with Annesley KC, that the judicial discovery and documentation of a new precedent in the law is analogous to the discovery of a new fact or truth in science. Over the centuries scientists have often been wrong, but their observational method of discovery leads them to the truth because it forces them to align their beliefs to reality.
Insofar as I would like to be a scientific theologian, this is the story of my book: the physical world is god’s body and we approach god’s mind, as we approach one another, by studying body language, which includes speech and everything else we do. This language is transmitted by physical sensation. The key to salvation is to feel and respect the divine nature.
An obscure point in my book is Aquinas’s definition of omnipotence: an omnipotent god can do anything which is not self contradictory. At the beginning of the twentieth century David Hilbert produced a logical definition of mathematics which aligns with Aquinas’s omnipotence: mathematicians are free to dream up any mathematical structure that does not lead to contradiction. Kurt Gödel discovered that logical perfection does not outlaw incompleteness; Alan Turing went on to see that logical perfection does not outlaw incomputability. Determinism cannot survive.
The would be cleric Charles Darwin realized that in the perfectly logical (and therefore divine) universe reproductive uncertainty and variation are essential to creativity. So the conclusion in my book is that the universe has created itself within a structureless and consistent eternal initial starting point. It has, from a scientific point of view, created natural law which is effectively the foundation of common law and its parliamentary and dictatorial offshoots.
Going a little bit further, the whole universe is an enormous precedent. Further, some precedents, like the idea that the Catholic Church and its teachings are above the law, require correction as you have noted. Evolution takes care of the same problem by the extinction of species that are no longer consistent with their environment.
I was thinking about this reading the ALA website when I came to the page “Write for us” and the line “To discuss writing for Precedent, please contact Tess Kerbell, ALA Editor and Production Manager. I thought that my book might be rephrased as a story of the incremental tailoring of legal precedent over about 14 billion years.
Principle 7 at the back of the book “Symmetry with respect to complexity” is the key link. Quantum mechanics sounds a bit arcane and seems widely misunderstood, but it is really about the fundamental process of the universe where possibilities are sifted at an exceedingly fast and small scale and various choices made. Some fundamental structures like the conservation of energy and the direction of time have become fixed, but the possibilities remain endless. The same process goes on everywhere all the time. From my point of view I am an alliance of 50 trillion cells each made of hundreds of billions of atoms and I (and all of them) are going through this process all the time. I have a headful of possibilities and am continuously choosing which one to do next. I am acting quantum mechanically, sifting possibilities.
This is the mechanism of evolution pointed out by Darwin made possible by variation, made possible in turn because logical consistency shows that the determinism attributed by the Church to its god is mathematically inconsistent, as Gödel and Turing found. Experience suggests that the law will always be evolving.
My expulsion from the order was not very dramatic; such damage as the Church did to me was embedded in the Church by the Apostle Paul who cast the flesh as the enemy of the spirit so that I learnt at an early age that physical pleasure was a mortal sin and that would send me to hell. My response was supererogation, going over the top to please God, a bit like MAGAs and Donald. I was saved by Thomas Aquinas who introduced Aristotle from Islam into the European Christian academy and set out to create a scientific theology. He was barely aware of any of the real science that started with ruling class investment in astrology which led to astronomy and physics.
By the time they threw me out I had been arguing with the master of studies for about two years and had realized that Aquinas (the intellectual founder of Dominican theology) had the right idea but his survival depended on accepting the false model of god propagated by imperial theologies since time immemorial. My book seems to be pretty hard going for the average reader because in the back of my mind was a plan to make my argument foolproof by exploiting the nineteenth century struggles in logic and mathematics which arose from the somewhat failed effort to make differential calculus logically consistent.
This led to the Principia of Whitehead and Russell which led to Gödel and Turing above. Whitehead & Russell (1910, 1962): Principia Mathematica (Cambridge Mathematical Library)
The upshot of all this is that you have given me a new respect for the structure and complexity of the law which has mostly appeared in my life in the form of speeding and parking fines. I did once try to explain to a magistrate that growing dope was ok and got off with good behaviour. I am now on course (I think) to writing a new book which examines institutions like the Catholic Church and the Papacy who claim to be above the common law by quoting the infallible words of an imaginary divinity.
Best wishes,

Letter to the Editor, Corriere della Sera,Dear Luciano Fontana,
A problem with the Vatican
I am sorry that I do not know Italian, even though I studied theology in Latin, so I must write to you in English.
When I was 18 years old I joined the Dominican Order and closely studied the work of Thomas Aquinas. I was impressed by the way he had introduced the science of Aristotle into Christianity. During the Second Vatican Council I suggested that we could to the same thing, making theology a real science by accepting that the physical world is the real word of God, God’s body language. We can read the glory of God in the beauty of the world.
The Order decided that my idea is a heresy and I was made to leave even though I had been there for 5 years and taken the solemn vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. I had to go but I felt that they were making a mistake. Now, 60 years later, I am 81 years old and have published a book: Cognitive Cosmogenesis, a systematic intefgration of physics and theology, in which I show by a careful study of physics and logic that my idea is quite consistent with reality.
I thought it would only be fair to send copies of my book to the Vatican so that they could review it and warn against it if it really is heretical. I sent copies to Pope Leo, to the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and to the Pontifical Academy of Science, which would be well qualified to judge it. My gifts were all returned unopened.
I decided to try again, sending one copy to the Dicastery and another to the Academy, thinking that Pope Leo would be too busy to read it anyway. The second copy to the Dicastery has been returned unopened, but the one to the Academy is still out there.
My book is readily available on the Internet, at Amazon for instance, and I am hoping that one or your learned writers could review it and bring it to the attention of the Church. I think they should know about it.
Best wishes,

My life, like everybody else, seems to have been lived on the limits of possibility, trying to achieve great results with minimal resources. Recounted in last night’s long and complicated dream, trying to turn a borrowed road train around in the narrow roads of Elands to help a friend move a mob of cattle from A to B. A typical example of the strange hallucinations of a dreaming mind. Perhaps recalled in my memories of my Poesis notebook written in the 1980s, and my current project to generate a simple vision of the creation of the universe for my lust-4-life website. Minor health and accommodation problems are colouring my life at

present but the show is going on slowly. First royalies from my book this month. I am hoping for a few thousand.
From my point of view the future of the work depends on a turnaround from the Trump fantasy that is destroying the US and which forms the backbone of the Catholic mythology causing two thousand years of war. I offered the Dominican Order an update on Aquinas’s thirteenth century scientific Ansatz and the order rejected me. Your motto Veritas is still a murderous lie, contributing to the massacre of thousands of ‘heretics’ in the era of Catholic imperialist war against Islam. I am sure that there are historians in the Order who realize that Aquinas’s essay De Ente et Essentia was first written by Muslim theologians but the Church resolutely sticks to its lies claiming infallibility and condoning the abuse of women and children in the face of law, truth and morality, enforcing ancient victimization of children that seems to have been an element of religious formation since time immemorial. > Darwin showed that the Christian creator is an impossible false god and the time has come, after the Royal Commission into the Institutional abuse of children has called out the catholic evil. For millennia religions have avoided the law by the Ellis defence [or equivalent]. Now they have at last have been legislated into responsible members of society, the next step is to legislate against the intellectual abuse which I suffered. What we need is a comprehensive list of the abusive criminals identified by the Royal Commission.

Anti abortionist Christians base their position on an unsustainable chain of lies which are not part of the universal wilderness in which every particle has mind and agency and the system as a whole respects justice through the mechanism of conservation and sharing of energy which is the power to work and to communicate. We have to develop the concept of justice as a consequence of the principles of self determination and agency developed in Quantocracy: The universal quantum mechanical foundations of democracy and freedom
